Practice Diary 12

As opposed to a usual rehearsal, i rehearsed with my band at Ivy arch recording studios in order to create some original songs.  The first song we made is called Destination 13 and is quite an upbeat but heavy song. I used the skills that i had learnt from practicing at home and recording in order to help create my part to the song. I used the minor pentatonic scale and pal muting in order to create this song. The palm muting goes well for the bridge of the song whilst the lead sing sing a breakdown and allows for calmer drumming to blend with the palm muting. Because of the palm muting when the song kicks back in it has a much bigger impact as the song broke down then comes back in heavier and louder. I used the pentatonic scale to create a rift that plays throughout the song in the background, this rift acts as a hook for the song and is a part that people will remember.

In this rehearsal we also created another song called GNB (Get Nothing Back.) This song has a very different feel to it compared to the first video as it has much more treble and therefore feels lighter as opposed to meaty and crunchy. The song heavily revolves around power chords but i sing a lot of back up vocals in the song. This course has helped me work on both my singing and guitar playing as there has been numerous times where i have had to sing. because of this i was able to contribute towards the song more. On the other hand playing in a band outside of college has helped me get use to working as an ensemble. Due to all of this i have been able to apply these skills both inside and outside of college in order to work and develop as a band and to help meet certain criteria in my college work.

I personally feel that rehearsing in a band and practicing alone at home are both very beneficial as it gives me two different ways to practice and i get to practice different things. For example at home i am able to focus on things that i need to work on or learn for example new scales or techniques but rehearsing and practicing as a band allows me to practice and develop my skills as an ensemble.
